Immigration reform is beginning to be a very hot topic of discussion. It was promissed by president Obama that in 2010 immigration reform will become a reality. Many people have different takes on the immigration reform issue and some of them are for it and some against it. I would like to share my point of view and let you know why I think reform of our current immigration laws is needed.
Immigration in the US is very important and our country is built by immigrants and their children. A comprehensive reform I think is needed to first of all help our country’s financial situation. All of the fees the immigrants would have to pay would ammount to such huge ammounts of money that that in itself would give the country a very big financial boost.
My second point would be that all of the people that are here illegally would now start to pay all of their taxes because they would be allowed to work like everyone else. Just think again of how much money it would come out to for our strugling economy if around 12 million people started to pay taxes because now they were actually able to do that. The financial outcome from the whole legalization process of all of the 12 million immigrants would be so good for our country that anyone who thinks different is just plain blind.
Another point I would like to talk about is that a lot of families are getting separated or forced to make very difficult decisions to stay or leave even when their children have legal status. When the parents of a child like that get a deportation order they have basically no choice but take the child with them and take away all of the opportunities that child as an already american citizen would have. It is wrong to make that child suffer because its parent have made wrong decisions in their lives or had no other choice but to come to the US illegally because of some circumstances we are not aware of.
The most important point I think for immigration reform to be able to pass is that the american public would be guaranteed that there will never be a situation like there is now. The government would have to guarantee that our border would be more secure and that any future illegal immigrants and employers hiring them would have such a difficult time doing it that it would not be worth it for them
I hope Immigration reform will pass this year.
